What should my net worth be before I get a financial planner?
There is no firm dollar amount to speak with a financial advisor. While certain advisors have account minimums, there are always advisors that may be hungrier that will always be willing to meet with you to develop a plan.
You can always go in to a "Discount" Brokerage firm like Fidelity, Schwab, TDAmeritrade, & E*TRADE. They pretty much will give you "free" advice. Of course they want you to have money, but they need to at least sit with you.
Also, these companies have websites with free comprehensive planning tools.
